We have spent more than 100 years working across engineering and operations, so our digital transformation services start with how your assets and processes behave in the real world. We are platform agnostic, deliver much of the build and integration ourselves, and our digital consultants work from offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra, Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, alongside teams across Southeast Asia and regional New Zealand.

Digital Transformation for Asset-Led Organisations
Digital transformation is the work of connecting your physical assets, data and people to digital technology so you can design, build, operate and maintain those assets with better information. For asset-heavy organisations, it looks different from the customer-app and marketing projects the term is often attached to. The value sits in asset data, operational decisions, energy and maintenance, safety, and the accuracy of the models you plan against.
Done properly, it changes business processes and, over time, business models. A successful digital transformation is seldom a single technology purchase. It is a sequence of decisions about data, systems and ways of working, each tied to an outcome you can measure. For a plain-English explanation of the concepts, read our overview of digital transformation.
Why Digital Transformation Programmes Fail
Most organisations already know they need to change. Where programmes come unstuck is in the detail, and the pattern repeats:
- Legacy and operational technology. Older control systems, OT/IT divides and undocumented integrations make change slower and riskier than the business case assumed.
- Weak data foundations. AI and automation are only as good as the data underneath them. Poor data quality and unclear data architecture stall projects that looked straightforward on paper.
- Skills and culture gaps. New systems fail when the people meant to use them were not brought along, or when the operating model was never adjusted to suit them.
- Technology chosen before the outcome. Buying a platform first, then hunting for a problem it solves, is the most common and expensive mistake we see.
The numbers bear this out. McKinsey has found that companies capture, on average, less than a third of the value they expect from digital transformation initiatives despite significant investment. As digital transformation consultants, our job is to close that gap by tying every technology decision to a business objective before anything gets built.
Our Approach to Digital Transformation Consulting
We start with the outcome; technology comes second. Before recommending any digital tools, we work with you to define the business objectives and the measures that will show whether the work is succeeding. This keeps digital initiatives aligned with what the organisation is trying to achieve.
We get the data foundations right. We treat your operational data as an asset in itself. Getting data architecture, quality and ownership sorted early is what lets analytics, machine learning and reporting deliver later.
We sequence for early value. We plan phased delivery. Short-term wins that build confidence and fund the next stage, then medium-term builds, then the larger changes. This is where independent advice earns its keep: sequencing the work so value arrives early.
We build change capability. New systems only pay off when they are adopted, and adoption is seldom automatic. We design the engagement, role-based training and support that move an organisation towards more digital-first, agile ways of working, using a structured change management approach.
We set governance and success metrics. We agree how decisions get made, and we report against baseline metrics and business value at each milestone, so you can see the return and adjust.

Our Digital Transformation Services
We advise, and we build. That combination is distinctive among digital transformation consultants; it means we can carry an idea from strategy through to a working system.
Digital Strategy and Advisory
Independent advice that ties every technology decision to a business case. We run digital maturity assessments, design your target state and plan phased delivery. This includes Industry 4.0 roadmaps built on the Smart Industry Readiness Index, so investment follows outcomes and early wins fund future work.
Digital Twins
Digital twins are connected digital models of a real asset, process or facility, combining design data, live sensor data and maintenance history. Teams can predict failures, trial changes and plan maintenance in the model first, avoiding costly rework and unplanned downtime once the asset is live.
Building Information Modelling (BIM)
Building Information Modelling brings architects, engineers, contractors and asset owners into one shared 3D model to improve cross-coordination. The data created during design carries through construction into operations and maintenance, giving owners better information for the whole asset lifecycle.
Smart Buildings
Smart buildings use interconnected sensors, automation and analytics to regulate heating, ventilation, lighting and energy in real time. We integrate these systems and add continuous building tuning to improve comfort, reduce energy use, and support predictive maintenance and sustainability goals.
Data, Analytics and AI
Data analytics turns multi-source data into decisions you can act on, drawing on machine learning and simulation where they improve accuracy. We build the data capture, architecture and reporting foundations that make advanced analytics dependable across your assets and operations.
Systems Integration and Software Development
We connect new digital technology with legacy and OT systems, move suitable workloads to cloud computing, and build custom software on a modular SaaS model when off-the-shelf will not fit. This reaches into SCADA, OT/IT integration and safety-critical systems assurance.
Sectors We Work In
Our digital solutions are shaped by the demands of each sector:
- Transport and infrastructure. Asset data, condition monitoring and planning across large networks.
- Water, energy and utilities. Remote monitoring and IoT across distributed assets.
- Buildings and property. Smart buildings, building tuning and digital twins across the asset lifecycle.
- Manufacturing and industrial. Industry 4.0, smart factories, IoT and automation.
- Government and defence. Digital public services, asset management and systems assurance.
- Health and education facilities. Asset performance, sustainability and campus-wide data.
Building a Digital Twin of a Century-Old Bridge
Between 2020 and 2024 we worked with Auckland Transport to create a digital twin of Grafton Bridge, combining BIM, 4D construction sequencing and IoT sensor data. The twin lets the team run virtual tests, compare design options and manage a 100-year-old structure with far less risk.
Building an Asset Assurance System for the Nav
For the Royal Australian Navy, we developed a seaworthiness assurance system for shore-based maritime infrastructure, including an asset register, an assessment framework and a custom software tool. It gives the Navy a repeatable way to manage the upkeep of critical wharves and structures.
Monitoring 3,400 Buildings for Earthquake Damage
Beca built Beacon, a service that links live earthquake data with existing asset information to estimate structural damage within minutes. It now monitors more than 3,400 assets for over 20 organisations, including ANZ, helping owners target inspections and get back to normal faster.
Inspecting a Bridge With AI and Drones
When Auckland Transport needed a condition assessment of the century-old Purewa Bridge, we used AI-enabled drones to capture 15,000 images and acoustic soundings, then AI software to identify and quantify defects. The digital assessment was delivered faster and more accurately, with no traffic disruption.
Engineering a Smart District Around 20,000 Sensors
At Punggol Digital District, Singapore's first fully smart business district developed by JTC, we delivered the mechanical and electrical engineering and helped shape the smart infrastructure. The district runs on an open digital platform fed by around 20,000 IoT sensors and a cloud-based building management system.
Coordinating a Winery Build in a Single 3D Model
For Treasury Wine Estates' Wolf Blass winery in the Barossa Valley, we delivered the design of two new barrel halls in a cloud-based BIM model. Coordinating every discipline in one model let the client catch clashes and run HSE reviews online, and the halls were built in nine months.
Lifting Production 68% With Digital Engineering
For Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia's plant in Medan, we laser-scanned the brownfield site into a 3D BIM model and used VR to coordinate a new high-speed production line. The staged, digitally engineered approach kept rework to a minimum and lifted production output by more than 68%.
Turning an Ageing Treatment Plant Into a 3D Asset Model
For Hamilton City Council, we scanned the Pukete wastewater treatment plant with drones and laser scanning and built a detailed BIM model of the site and its assets. The model plugs into the council's asset management system, giving its water team current, reliable information to run and maintain the plant.
