We build digital twins with BIM, reality capture, 3D modelling and GIS, connect them to real-time data, and run them on our BEYON platform. Our digital teams work across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar and the Pacific. Talk to our team about scoping a digital twin.
What a Digital Twin Does for Your Assets
A digital twin brings design data, live sensor data and maintenance history for a physical asset into one digital representation you can monitor, question and plan against. For asset- and operations-led organisations, that means spotting problems earlier, testing what-if scenarios without touching the asset itself, and moving from reactive repairs to planned, data-led decisions.
Digital twins are now widely used: a 2025 Hexagon survey found that 92% of organisations tracking returns reported more than 10% ROI.
Our Digital Twin Services
We take a digital twin from idea to a working model your team relies on, matching the right digital twin technology to your assets and the decisions you need to make. Our digital twin services cover:
Digital Twin Strategy and Readiness
As the digital twin market matures, more assets are worth twinning. We assess which of yours suit a twin, what data you already hold, and where the return is, then scope the twin around a clear business case.
Creating the Twin
We build the digital model using BIM, reality capture, drone and laser scanning, 3D and 4D modelling, and GIS. We collect data on the asset and its surroundings, then point clouds and spatial data give the twin an accurate, geospatially aware picture.
Connecting Live Data
We connect the twin to real-time data from Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and your operational systems, so the model reflects the physical asset as it is now. This live connection is what separates a digital twin from a static 3D model.
Analytics, AI and Simulation
We add analytics, machine learning and simulation so the twin can flag anomalies, forecast failures and run what-if scenarios. Artificial intelligence turns raw sensor and operational data into insights your team can act on, and helps you visualise data from across the asset in one place.
Running the Twin
We host and manage twins on BEYON, our configurable, Azure-powered digital twin platform, and keep them current as your assets change. Where you prefer other tools, we also work with platforms such as Autodesk Tandem and Azure Digital Twins.
Component Twins
A twin of a single physical object or piece of equipment, used to monitor its condition in detail.
Asset Twins
A twin of a complete asset made up of many components, such as a bridge, building or treatment plant.
System Twins
A twin that shows how several assets and their components interact as a system, giving visibility across a site or network.
Process Twins
A twin of an end-to-end process or workflow, used to see how the parts work together and where to improve.
Where Digital Twins Deliver Value
We focus our digital twin solutions on the sectors where connected asset data changes outcomes:
Infrastructure and Transport
Bridges, roads and networks monitored and planned against live condition data.
Water, Energy and Utilities.
Distributed assets tracked through IoT and remote monitoring.
Smart Buildings
Building performance, energy and maintenance managed from a live model.
Manufacturing and Industry 4.0
Production lines and plants modelled and simulated before change.
Government and Smart Cities
Spatial digital twins that bring city and asset data together for planning and resilience.
Building a Campus-Wide Digital Twin
Working with the University of Melbourne, we built a campus-wide digital twin underpinned by coordinated, structured asset and facilities data. It brings the university's buildings and asset information together to support better learning, cost and sustainability outcomes, and won the Facility Management Association of Australia's Leadership in Industry Innovation award.
Monitoring a Century-Old Bridge With a Digital Twin
Between 2020 and 2024 we worked with Auckland Transport to build a digital twin of Grafton Bridge, combining BIM, 4D sequencing, IoT sensors and VR. The twin lets the team run virtual tests, compare design options and manage a 100-year-old structure with far less risk.
Rebuilding a National Database as an AI Digital Twin
With MBIE, we rebuilt the New Zealand Geotechnical Database on BEYON, our Azure-powered digital twin platform. Built-in AI lets engineers and councils ask questions in plain language and get geospatially aware answers, turning a national dataset into faster, better-informed decisions.
Designing a Highway With a Digital Twin
On Takitimu North Link, a digital twin let every design discipline collaborate before construction began and helped choose the best design option. The efficiencies gained removed 22,000 construction truck movements from the local road network, saving around 900,000km of driving, and the work won a Bentley Going Digital Award.
Turning a Treatment Plant Into a Live Asset Model
For Hamilton City Council, we scanned the Pukete wastewater treatment plant with drones and laser scanning and built a detailed digital model of the site and its assets. The model plugs into the council's asset management system, giving its water team current information to run and maintain the plant.
Why Beca for Digital Twins
- Engineering Heritage Plus Digital. We understand the assets and the operating and engineering technology behind them, so we pair our engineering depth with a real understanding of how the asset behaves.
- We Advise and We Build. We bring the full range of digital twin capabilities in-house: we scope the twin, build the model, connect the data and run it, without depending on anyone else.
- Our Own Platform. BEYON is Beca's configurable digital twin platform, and we stay platform-agnostic where another tool suits you better.
- Spatial and GIS Depth. Our GIS and geospatial work means we create digital twins with accurate spatial context, which matters most for infrastructure, networks and cities.
How We Work With You
Beca scopes each digital twin around your assets and the decisions you need to make. A typical engagement moves through four stages:
- Readiness Assessment. Which assets suit a twin, what data exists, and where the value is.
- Pilot on a Single Asset. A contained proof of concept, a digital twin prototype on one asset, that shows the value before wider investment.
- Build and Connect. Creating the model and connecting it to live data.
- Manage and Extend. Running the twin and adding assets as your needs grow.
