Working closely with Oji Fibre Solutions, Wood Beca is helping transform their Kinleith New Zealand Pulp & Paper mill into a model, efficient advanced manufacturing facility.
In particular, our Wood Beca team is working with management at Oji Fibre Solutions (OjiFS) to deliver the following two projects. Both are focused on improving health and safety at their Kinleith Paper Mill in the Waikato region, whilst reducing its energy consumption and improving the overall efficiency of its sophisticated production processes.

Capital Programme Management

We’re assisting OjiFS to manage an annual programme of 300+ capital and non-routine maintenance projects, predominantly focused on health and safety improvements, asset obsolescence, sustainability, optimisation and process improvements.

To achieve these goals, we introduced several cloud-based tools to monitor and control each project precisely, beginning with OjiFS’s 10-year strategic plan, down to planning their next plant shutdown. Using these tools in conjunction with Wood Beca’s Pulp and Paper expertise is a key factor in successfully delivering this large programme of works.

Kinleith Wastewater Treatment Plant

Oji Fibre Solutions plan to upgrade their existing wastewater treatment system to improve the quality of effluent discharged to the environment, and meet new resource consent conditions.

This overall programme of work consists of upgrades within the mill to reduce flow and/or load discharged to the effluent drains (Source Control Projects) and to upgrade the wastewater system that treats the effluent, prior to environmental discharge (WWTP project). The WWTP project includes the 71MLD treatment plant itself, as well as significant integration works, including pipelines, pump stations, storage ponds, water supply, electrical supply and all ancillary work.

Wood Beca undertook the concept and preliminary design of the project, including geotechnical, civil, structural, mechanical, hydraulic and electrical design of all of the works and process design of the integration works. We also prepared capital cost estimates for all the works at each design stage and led the technical interface with the treatment plant vendor, who was responsible for design of the treatment process.
