Airport terminals have entirely individual requirements. We know this because we listen to you before transforming your ideas into creative, functional, high-energy terminal spaces.

Successful airport terminal design is a foundations-up project that encompasses a myriad of complex requirements in one building. Your objectives are paramount when we consult with our architects, planners, designers, building services and structural engineers.

We aim to achieve these objectives while maximising operational efficiency and the lifetime value of your investment, ensuring the airport remains viable, functional and profitable for decades to come.

The result integrates the project's various parts, so everyone involved in the building's operation and construction understands your aims and can offer input into the design concept. We bring structural and building services solutions that are both innovative and sustainable.

We also aim to set benchmarks for the materials, systems and system designs we propose for each terminal so you can unlock excellent value from your assets. This involves examining aspects like locally sourced materials, ease of maintenance, capital and maintenance costs, buildability, productivity, resources, energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.

Up-to-the-minute technologies like our passenger traffic simulation tools help us model real and potential problems so we can assure you of well-balanced, integrated solutions. We focus on balancing form and function, from minimising walking distances and congestion through intuitive wayfinding, to enhancing the passenger experience through art installations and vibrant retail spaces.

Add to that our extensive highways, rail and structural teams and you have a fully-fledged landside and transport approach.

Our Work on Changi Airport Terminal 4

Interior design of Changi, one of the most beautiful airports in the world.

Singapore's Changi Airport is the world's sixth busiest international airport - and has also won Skytrax's World's Best Airport award a record-holding 13 times.

Beca supported Changi Airport Group (CAG) in designing and engineering the airport's new Terminal 4, a technologically ground-breaking 222,500m2 complex that was completed in just four years and opened to passengers in 2017.

In designing the building and IT services for T4, we drew on expertise from our Mechanical and Electrical Engineering team to create robust systems that prioritised both energy efficiency and the human experience of the terminal's planned annual capacity of 16 million passengers. We also consulted on the project as technical assessors.
