We’re thrilled to share CH2M Beca and Western Water have been jointly awarded the Australian Water Association’s (AWA) ‘Infrastructure Project Innovation Award (Metro)’ Victoria, for our creative use of digital technology across the Western Water network!

This prestigious accolade, which recognises “significant and innovative infrastructure projects within the water industry that drive prosperity and sustainability” was announced at an official reception held at Federation Square Melbourne on Thursday, 4 March, attended by proud members of our Water team.

It recognised the delivery of an Asset Information Management System for Western Water’s Merrimu Treatment Plant that enriches the physical attributes of this operational site with the technical knowledge of existing asset data. CH2M Beca developed this innovative and industry-leading digital engineering tool, to enable better, more informed decisions that lead to business continuity and remote asset access to the right information, by the right people at the right time.

In commenting on this significant achievement, Matt Bismark, Water Segment Director at Beca, said “three and a bit years ago, Western Water set a long term objective for our 7-year long Engineering and Delivery Partnership – to become recognised as a leader in the role of Digital Technologies in the Water Industry.  The award recognises the vision we set, how the work was done and the unforeseen benefits of the tools and their roles in continuing to deliver safely in a COVID restricted world.”

“Congratulations Wester Water for setting an ambitious vision for your business – we’re proud of our partnership and the great things we are able to achieve together,” he said.

“This outstanding result is a recognition of how these qualities can help make everyday better for a client that delivers one of life’s most precious resource to more than 180,000 Victorians!”

Winning this award at the state level means both CH2M Beca and Western Water are now automatically entered into the equivalent national award, set to be announced at the Ozwater 21 Conference in Adelaide May 4-6.
