Beca appoints Luke Carvell as Digital Innovation Leader – Transport & Infrastructure Australia

Beca is delighted to appoint Luke Carvell to lead our growing Australian Transport & Infrastructure Digital team based in Melbourne. With over two decades of experience in industry, Luke brings rich and practical experience to the role.

As Digital Innovation Leader in Beca’s Transport & Infrastructure group, Luke will play a key role in supporting our clients across Australia in their digital transition and adoption. Luke will lead a team with a wealth of experience in Buiding Informational Modelling (BIM), digital engineering, programming, Internet of things (IoT), digital asset management, GIS (Geographic Information Systems), machine learning and digital twins.

A passionate engineer with 20 years’ global experience, Luke Carvell began his career as a Steel Detailer with PDC Group Perth, before moving into a range of digital roles, most notably at Beca where he joined our Industrial Buildings team in January 2017.

Since then, Luke has pursued his passion for strategically implementing digital solutions to some of the biggest challenges in the built environment. Luke’s pragmatic 'digital first' approach brings projects to life – including the $1.2 billion Southern Program Alliance Level Crossing Removal (LXRP) in Melbourne, the $450 million Penlink freeway extension in Auckland New Zealand, and a range of Trans-Tasman Water Treatment Plant and Utilities facilities.

"Luke brings invaluable experience to the technical and leadership role in the Transport & Infrastructure Australia Digital team. Our clients are in practical, innovative and knowledgeable hands with Luke" - Thomas Hyde, Chief Digital Officer Beca

Luke is excited by the opportunities that lie ahead, commenting, "This role is critical in creating the change necessary in the industry. By using digital and innovation, we can do more with the same (or less). As we face record investment, structural changes to our industry, and existential issues, such as climate change, it’s critical we utilise the power of digital and innovation to do the heavy lifting".
