Capabilities and Services
Mechanical and Electrical Engineering
MEP engineering is the foundation of Beca's Singapore practice, built over four decades of work on some of the most technically demanding buildings in the city. Our mechanical and electrical engineers deliver HVAC, power distribution, lighting, plumbing and control systems for supertall towers, mixed-use precincts, healthcare campuses and educational facilities, with a strong focus on energy efficiency and the integration of sustainability targets into building services design from the earliest stages of a project.
Structural Engineering
Singapore's skyline has been shaped in part by the structural engineering work our team has contributed to over decades. From the twin curved towers of DUO to the green-heart precinct of Marina One, our structural engineers have tackled complex geometries, long spans and challenging foundation conditions on projects where the structural solution is inseparable from the architectural vision. Assessment and strengthening of existing structures, including heritage buildings undergoing adaptive reuse, is also a significant part of our experience.
Civil Engineering
Below and around Singapore's landmark buildings lies civil engineering work that rarely gets credited: the foundations, drainage, earthworks and site infrastructure that make complex urban developments on reclaimed land buildable. Civil engineering services cover site infrastructure design, foundation engineering and environmental impact studies for large-scale mixed-use, commercial and civic developments.
Smart Buildings and Automation
Singapore's ambition to become a Smart Nation has created sustained demand for building intelligence that goes well beyond standard controls. Our smart building capability spans IoT sensor networks, integrated building management systems, digital twin development and building analytics, with particular depth of experience on large-scale developments where the intelligence of a building is a core deliverable.
Digital and Industrial Consulting
Beca's Digital Innovation Hub in Singapore spearheads our work helping manufacturers and asset-intensive businesses navigate digitalisation. CAPEXinsights and digital solutions are now deployed by multinationals to optimise industrial operations and capital development programmes, providing data-informed decision-making that improves how complex assets are planned, built and operated over time.
Sustainability Consulting
Green building performance is not optional in Singapore. BCA Green Mark certification requirements mean that sustainable development must be a foundational concern. Our sustainability consultants deliver environmental sustainable design, energy modelling, computational fluid dynamics analysis and green certification support for projects targeting Green Mark Platinum and international sustainability standards.
Fire Engineering
Fire engineering in Singapore's high-rise and high-density building environment requires performance-based solutions that work within complex structural and services constraints. Our fire engineers develop life safety strategies and fire safety systems for commercial towers, healthcare facilities, hospitality developments and heritage buildings, working alongside MEP and structural teams.
Building Consulting
Heritage conservation and adaptive reuse are defining features of Singapore's built environment, where colonial-era and mid-century structures sit alongside contemporary towers. Our building consulting services cover condition assessment, engineering advice for protected buildings, code compliance and lifecycle planning, with particular experience on sensitive projects where new systems must be integrated without compromising historic fabric.
Selected Projects in Singapore
Punggol Digital District
Punggol Digital District is Singapore's first business hub to fully integrate smart building technology with physical infrastructure, housing key industries powering the country's digital economy. Beca was engaged by JTC Corporation to deliver MEP engineering and masterplanning services, coordinating design of the site-wide district cooling system and a 66kV underground electrical substation among the first of its type in Singapore. The development achieved BCA Green Mark Platinum Super Low Energy certification and has become a benchmark for sustainable smart district design.
DUO
Designed by Ole Scheeren, DUO is a mixed-use development in Singapore's CBD combining office and retail space, a five-star hotel and luxury residential apartments within two striking curved towers. Beca provided building services, civil and structural engineering and environmental sustainable design consultancy, with green features including double-glazed low-E glass, heat pumps and rainwater harvesting. The project has since received multiple Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat Awards of Excellence and two BCA Green Mark awards.
Raffles Hotel Refurbishment
The Raffles Hotel refurbishment required Beca to integrate contemporary building services into one of Singapore's most celebrated heritage buildings without compromising its historic character. Working within the constraints of the existing structure and conservation requirements, our building services team delivered MEP engineering solutions that brought the 19th-century property up to modern performance and operational standards while preserving the fabric that makes Raffles a Singapore landmark.
Grab Headquarters
Grab's headquarters in one-north is designed as a state-of-the-art smart building that reflects the technology company's operational culture and ambitions. Beca delivered MEP engineering and smart building consulting for a facility where building intelligence systems, occupant experience and energy performance are central to how the building functions day to day. The project demonstrates what is achievable when smart building technology is treated as a core design requirement.
Singapore Institute of Technology
The Singapore Institute of Technology campus in Punggol is a SGD $1 billion development rethinking the university campus for a digital future, with a network of 10,000 IoT sensors feeding into an integrated building management system. Beca led the design of mechanical and electrical engineering services for Plot 1, bringing MEP expertise to a campus designed to integrate learning, industry and community in a single connected environment.
Changi Airport Terminal 4
Changi Airport Terminal 4 is a fully automated, self-service terminal designed to process passengers with minimal friction while setting new standards for airport design in Southeast Asia. Beca's involvement spanned the breadth of building services engineering required for a terminal of this complexity, supporting a project that has since been recognised internationally as one of the world's leading airport facilities.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does Beca approach working with international architects and developers in Singapore?
Singapore attracts some of the world's most ambitious architectural practices, and our team has extensive experience working alongside global firms including Ole Scheeren and WOHA on projects where the engineering must match the ambition of the design. We are accustomed to working within large multidisciplinary teams where reliable delivery and the ability to solve complex technical problems are what clients value most. For international developers unfamiliar with the local regulatory environment, we can also provide guidance on BCA requirements, URA conservation rules and local compliance frameworks.
What engineering disciplines does your Singapore team cover in-house?
Our Singapore office covers mechanical and electrical engineering, civil and structural engineering, fire engineering, environmental and sustainability design, and smart building consulting. For most commercial, civic and hospitality projects, this means clients can work with a single engineering consultancy for the full scope of building services. We also have in-house digital consulting and industrial advisory capability through our Digital Innovation Hub, supporting manufacturers and asset owners with digitalisation strategy and capital project optimisation.
How should I select an engineering consultancy in Singapore?
Track record on comparable projects matters, but so does depth of in-house capability and how well a firm understands Singapore's specific regulatory and climatic context. The tropical climate, reclaimed land and Green Mark requirements all shape how engineering decisions need to be made, and a consultancy without local depth will struggle to navigate these effectively. Experience managing complex stakeholder environments – projects in Singapore often involve JTC, BCA, URA and multiple private parties simultaneously – is as valuable as technical skill.
What makes engineering in Singapore different from other markets?
Several things combine to make Singapore a demanding engineering environment. The tropical climate creates persistent cooling and humidity challenges that drive MEP decisions on almost every project. Much of the island is built on reclaimed land, which affects foundation design across a significant proportion of developments. The regulatory framework is rigorous – BCA Green Mark requirements, URA conservation overlays and SCDF fire safety standards all shape what can be designed and how. And Singapore's ambition to lead globally in smart and sustainable urbanism means the bar for engineering performance keeps rising.
How does your Singapore office support projects elsewhere in Southeast Asia?
Singapore is Beca's regional hub for Southeast Asia, and our team regularly provides engineering support for projects in markets including Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Myanmar. For developers and clients working across the region, our Singapore office can provide a single point of coordination for projects in multiple countries, drawing on local knowledge in each market alongside the consistency of Beca's technical standards and delivery approach.
