The Leading Engineering Company in Auckland

Beca began in Auckland, New Zealand in 1920 as a small two-man land development practice. Since then we’ve helped shape this city in big ways, and today, Beca is one of Asia Pacific’s largest employee-owned advisory, design and engineering consultancy firms, with our global headquarters still right here in Auckland.

Our Auckland office is located at Beca House, Te Paeroa o te Kawau, in the Wynyard Quarter Innovation Precinct, bringing around 1,400 people together in a single waterfront campus. The workplace is targeting 6 Green Star, 5-star NABERSNZ and Platinum WELL certifications, reflecting our commitment to sustainability, wellbeing and modern ways of working.

With engineering, consulting, advisory and project management expertise across a wide range of markets, including civil, commercial and apartment buildings, renewable energy, water, transport and infrastructure, and digital technology, to name just a few examples, our Auckland team can help make everyday better.

Services We Provide

Services we offer include civil engineering, structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, architectural design, road design and construction monitoring, land development consulting, environmental management, and the list goes on.

Civil Engineering

Our civil engineering team in Auckland plans and designs roads, three waters networks, subdivisions and other core infrastructure that keeps the city moving and growing. Drawing on our deep local knowledge of Auckland’s unique geographical constraints and water-sensitive design requirements, we coordinate earthworks, drainage, access and services so they connect smoothly into the wider city network and perform reliably.

Structural Engineering

Our structural engineers in Auckland design building frames, seismic systems and load-bearing elements for office buildings and complex industrial facilities. We’re often recommended for structural work when projects need clear seismic strategies that align with the architectural vision, and our structural and fire engineers work closely with architects, builders and other consultants to ensure everything is buildable and compliant.

Geotechnical Engineering

Our geotechnical consultants understand how Auckland’s volcanic soil profiles, steep terrain and coastal conditions affect foundations, retaining walls, slopes and basements. By assessing ground conditions early, we help you choose appropriate foundation systems and earthworks strategies for land development and building structures, reducing construction risk and supporting safer, more resilient projects across the region.

Digital Engineering

Our Auckland team uses Building Information Modelling (BIM) and other digital tools to coordinate disciplines, test options and communicate complex designs clearly. Working in shared models with your wider project team helps us identify clashes earlier, refine layouts and quantities, and give you better data for operating and maintaining your assets once they’re built.

Our Engineering Projects in Auckland

We have worked on diverse and challenging projects for clients in public, commercial and industrial spaces. You only need to look around to see some of the engineering solutions work we've delivered across various sectors – from crossing Auckland Harbour Bridge, to visiting Sky Tower for a stunning view, to a faster commute between the airport and CBD via Waterview Connection, to the very water you drink.

Auckland Harbour Bridge

When you drive safely over the Auckland Harbour Bridge, you might not consider the structural engineers that made it possible. The bridge has evolved over time, to meet our city’s growing demands.

The Sky Tower

The Auckland Sky Tower is famously the tallest free-standing structure in the Southern Hemisphere, as well as a modern masterpiece of architectural, geotechnical, structural, lighting and fire engineering. It is a staple of the Auckland city skyline.

Aucklands Waterview Connection motorway

Waterview Connection is one of the most complex road construction projects ever undertaken in New Zealand. Our civil engineering support ensured this part of the motorway was safe and smoothly opened.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Beca’s Auckland office based?

Our Auckland office is located at 124 Halsey Street in Wynyard Quarter, where Beca’s new global headquarters, Te Paeroa o te Kawau, brings together around 1,400 Auckland-based people in a single, purpose-built workplace. The building is targeting high Green Star, NABERS NZ and WELL ratings, reflecting our commitment to sustainable, people-focused workplaces in the heart of the city.

What kinds of clients does the Auckland team work with?

From our Auckland office we support public and private clients, including central and local government agencies, transport and health organisations, airport operators, industrial businesses and property developers. Our team delivers multidisciplinary services across buildings, infrastructure, water, environment and digital, so we can stay involved from early planning through design and delivery on a wide variety of projects.

What should I prepare before talking to Beca about a new project?

It helps to have a short summary of your project, any existing drawings or reports, key objectives, budget and programme expectations, plus information about the site such as zoning, previous studies or known constraints. Sharing this early allows our Auckland team to quickly assess whether you need civil, structural, geotechnical, water or other support first, and to shape advice around your specific priorities rather than offering a generic package of services.

How does Beca manage communication and coordination on Auckland projects?

Typically you’ll have a dedicated project manager or lead consultant who becomes your main point of contact, supported by discipline leads across civil, structural, geotechnical, water and other specialties as needed. We use structured design reviews, clear documentation and regular progress updates to keep everyone aligned, and our design management approach focuses on identifying interdisciplinary risks and opportunities early so they can be resolved before they affect cost or programme.

What should I look for when choosing an engineering consultant in Auckland?

When comparing options, check that the consultant has strong local experience, the right mix of civil, structural and geotechnical skills for your project, and a reputation for reliable project management and communication. It’s also worth asking how they incorporate sustainability from the early design stages and what digital tools, such as BIM and other modelling platforms, they use to coordinate work with architects, builders and other professionals and to support long-term asset management.
