Expanding mental health services for Geelong & beyond

The Geelong community will benefit from improved mental health services thanks to a new 27 bed upgrade to The Geelong Clinic, the only healthcare facility of its kind in this fast-growing region.

Geelong is Victoria’s second largest city and one of Australia’s fastest growing regions. Given its rapid population growth and the unmet demand for mental health services amongst its community, Healthscope have embarked on an 1,400m2 expansion of this private mental health facility to accommodate 79 beds.

Beca’s Building Services team were appointed by Healthscope in partnership with Turner & Townsend, Terry Atchison Architects and Harrington Gumienik & Partners to make this much needed expansion a reality, without disrupting daily operations to staff and patients.

Our involvement is split across two stages, a process made easier by close collaboration with our project partners.

• Stage 1 – Early Works: This includes provision for new underground building services infrastructure to support the expanded main ward and negotiating with the local power and fire authority for staging the upgrade of relevant equipment.
• Stage 2 – Main Works: This stage includes upgrading the building services and internal fitout of the existing kitchen, dining facilities and office space, to accommodate additional staff and patients.

Construction continues apace and once this expansion is complete by Mid 2021, The Geelong Clinic will help make everyday better for locals by providing world class mental health treatments for those suffering addictions, depression, eating disorders and PTSD amongst other complex conditions.
