Irene Yong wins Professional Leadership in Sustainability Award

Beca is excited to announce that Irene Yong, Technical Director - Building Services, has won the Professional Leadership in Sustainability Award at the 2022 SGBC-BCA Leadership in Sustainability Awards Gala Dinner, held 20 May.

The biennial awards are jointly organised by the Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) and the Building & Construction Authority (BCA). The Professional Leadership in Sustainability category honours the achievements of Singapore’s Green Mark Accredited Professionals (GMAPs) who are driving positive change in built environment sustainability and have made exemplary contributions to green building development.

“I’m truly honoured to receive this award,” says Irene Yong, Technical Director - Building Services, and Section Head for Sustainability and the Centre of Excellence (CenEx) team in Beca’s Singapore office.

“Sustainability is however a team effort. I’m fortunate to have worked on many iconic green projects with many inspiring colleagues, partners, developers, and architects who share the same passion in greening the built environment. I believe it is important for us, together with the next generation of sustainability leaders, to not only embrace but further amplify this passion, so that we can move beyond sustainability, towards creating a regenerative environment for the future.”

Irene, who has been with Beca for nearly 20 years, has been instrumental in advocating and leading Green Building design. She and her team of Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) engineers carry out green certification projects, building condition audits and diagnostics, technical due diligence, design reviews and feasibility studies.

To date, she has successfully led more than 80 Green Mark projects including the much-lauded DUO, Marina One and Nanyang Technological University, which won the inaugural Green Mark Platinum^STAR Champion Award in 2016 for having more than 50 Green Mark Platinum buildings in the campus.

The SGBC-BCA Leadership in Sustainability Awards are co-organised by the Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) and the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) to recognise professionals, organisations and building projects for their contributions and significant achievements in the development of a green and sustainable built environment. The Awards programme had been refreshed for 2022 to better reflect contemporary industry trends and developments as well as to best profile excellence in built environment sustainability.
