New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon officially opened Beca House in Wynyard Quarter on Thursday 29 May.
Precinct Chief Executive Scott Pritchard said the opening of Beca House signifies the completion of the Wynyard Quarter Innovation Precinct, which has transformed an under-utilised industrial area into a vibrant neighbourhood.
The Prime Minister described Wynyard Quarter as one of the largest urban regeneration projects we’ve seen in New Zealand and noted the positive impact it has had on the economy. He spoke highly of Beca, describing it as a world-class company of incredible innovators.
Chief Executive Amelia Linzey described moving to the Wynyard Quarter Innovation Precinct as a full circle moment, as Beca has been involved in the planning and creation of the area since its earliest days.
Amelia also acknowledged Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei for gifting Beca with a name for its workplace: Te Paeroa Taumatua, Te Paeroa Kaiata, Te Paeroa o te Kawau, which references Beca’s legacy of leadership, focus on innovation and future thinking.
“It was our focus on the future that prompted our move here to the Wynyard Quarter Innovation Precinct. We wanted to create a workplace that would encourage creativity and collaboration; that would help us reach our decarbonisation and sustainability goals; and allow us to transform into a truly future-fit organisation.
“The move is already changing the way we work and we are getting great feedback from our people,” she said.
“We are relishing being part of this neighbourhood.”
