Beca grows its renewables team with appointment of Khalid Simjee

We are pleased to welcome Khalid Simjee, Principal – Renewables, to support the crucial energy transition work required to make everyday better for future generations.

Khalid has over 20 years of project management experience, of which eight years have been in utility-scale renewable energy projects. He has developed over 2.9 GW of Solar PV and 1.5 GW/6 GWh of battery energy storage in the United States.

Khalid will be working with our key clients across New Zealand and Australia in utility-scale wind, solar and battery energy developments. Khalid is passionate about the protection of forest land when delivering projects, and he hopes to leave the planet in a better state than when he arrived.

Mark Jacob, Senior Principal in our Power team in Wellington comments: "This role was a key strategic hire for Beca as we take on some of the biggest energy projects in Australia and New Zealand. We look forward to watching Khalid leverage his extensive international experience to support the energy transition for our industry."

Upon joining, Khalid noted, "The New Zealand and Australia renewable energy markets are reaching a boiling point to reduce carbon intensity. Beca was an easy and exciting choice, because the company’s reputation in the industry will allow me to help nearly every key energy player transition to renewables, as quickly as possible."

Khalid is based out of our Wellington office, following a move to New Zealand from California, US.
