Congratulations to all award-winners at the Association of Consulting Engineers (ACE) New Zealand Awards 2021.
The ACE Awards celebrate the excellent work delivered by consultants and engineers to create vibrant and sustainable outcomes for their communities.

In a virtual ceremony held in February 2022, Beca was thrilled to be amongst the winners, taking home Gold, Silver and Merit awards, as well as the special Community Award for Te Hono New Plymouth Airport Terminal.

Gold – The Exchange 106, Kuala Lumpur – “The Auckland building services team is ecstatic about Exchange 106 winning the ACE awards. Overseas projects tend to slide under the radar, so we thank ACE NZ for recognising overseas projects and presenting this award,” commented Xinyi Wong, Beca’s Job Manager for the project. “We would also like to thank our client, Mulia Group, for the opportunity to be part of such an iconic project with an amazing project team. Not often do we get the opportunity in NZ to work on a building that is over 100m taller than the Sky Tower! “

Gold – 36th America’s Cup Infrastructure ProjectIt was a collaboration success story. The Alliance team not only created an impressive stage for the race, but also a legacy in the form of an attractive, welcoming waterfront destination Kiwis and visitors would love. “The project achieved some outstanding results which wouldn’t have been possible without a talented and dedicated team of designers and consultants who worked in collaboration with our partners to develop innovative solutions that enabled us to meet and exceed our objectives on this fast-paced project. Much of the success of this project is attributed to the Alliance model, so recognition should be given to Auckland Council and Central Government (represented by MBIE), for adopting this collaborative procurement approach, and to our construction partners at McConnell Dowell and Downer. Fantastic result for the team so well done to everyone involved,” Will Ingle, Alliance Design Manager.

Silver – Rankine Brown Building, Victoria University of Wellington – “Walking through the Rankine Brown building hours after the Kaikoura Earthquake I don’t think we realised how big a part of our lives it would be in the years ahead. We’ve turned the challenge of a damaged building into a truly resilient asset. The isolation system for the building’s lift core is incredibly innovative – but we’ve only been able to achieve that because of the genuine partnership between the University, the engineering team and our contractor, and I think ACE NZ’s recognition really speaks to how the team came together,” confirmed Henry Tatham, Project Director.

Merit & Community Award – Te Hono New Plymouth Airport Terminal – “We are extremely thrilled that Te Hono New Plymouth Airport Terminal was also selected for the Community Award,” comments Matthew Low, Beca’s Project Manager. “This is an outstanding achievement for the Beca and Puketapu design team, recognising the collaborative effort that allowed the integration of the story of Puketapu into the building form in so many ways, whilst concurrently achieving great operational functionality for the Airport.” The vision to co-design the new airport alongside a leadership team from Puketapu has resulted in an airport which holds strong meaning for all people of the Taranaki region.
