We’re excited to announce that Beca has achieved formal certification to ISO 19650-2, a global standard that governs the management of information regarding built assets over their entire lifecycle, using BIM (Building Information Modelling) processes.
Aligning Beca’s project delivery processes with ISO 19650-2 means our clients can expect the delivery of their projects with greater speed and efficiency, through less rework and duplication of effort. It also allows our own people to more effectively manage information to reduce project risks and deliver value throughout the entire asset lifecycle, harnessing the power of BIM.

In commenting on this achievement, Glenn Jowett – Technical Director, Digital Engineering Advisory said “Achieving ISO 19650 certification is an important milestone as we continue to provide excellence in information management for the projects we work on, whilst supporting our clients as they embark on their own digital transformations. This reinforces Beca’s position as leaders in BIM and Information Management processes.”

One of our clients, Andy Lyon – Programme Director, Digital Engineering at KiwiRail said “It is great to see Beca’s commitment to good information management through their ISO 19650 certification. As KiwiRail embarks on its own digital engineering transformation we need more of our project partners to step up and help raise capability in this space, and I’m excited to see Beca’s certification being backed up with an investment in their people undertaking ISO 19650 Information Management Practitioner and Professional qualifications.”

Beca’s Digital Engineering Advisory team has been working through the thorough certification process with Bureau Veritas since June last year, and we’re now one of the first multidisciplinary businesses headquartered in New Zealand to achieve certification to this standard.

The goal for our design teams and downstream users of digital information is to help increase predictability around cost and time through a common approach to the management of information. We’re also investing in upskilling our people across Australia, New Zealand and Singapore to become ISO 19650 Information Management Practitioners and Professionals by partnering with Operam Academy.

Our ISO 19650-2 certification covers the entire business across our New Zealand and Australian offices, with the intention of extending this certification to our Asian offices, most notably Singapore, in the near future.

This standard is formally known as ISO 19650-2:2018: ‘Organization and digitization of information about buildings and civil engineering works, including building information modelling (BIM) — Information management using building information modelling: Delivery phase of the assets’.
