A precinct for 24/7 living, work & play on Marina Bay

The redeveloped Collyer Quay forms a key part of the Singapore government’s vision for creating a vibrant 24-hour, 7 day/week environment for living, working and playing on the city’s renowned Marina Bay.

Fronting Singapore’s renowned Marina Bay, at the heart of this city state is the redeveloped Collyer Quay precinct; a mixed-use development that incorporates the five-star Fullerton Bay Hotel, the historic, restored Clifford Pier and a number of high quality waterside bars and restaurants.

Based on our strong track record successfully delivering similar projects throughout Singapore, Beca was engaged by the client Precious Quay Pte Ltd to provide MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing), civil and structural engineering services.

Given the site’s proximity to the water and the need to construct around existing buildings, extensive instrumentation and monitoring works were carried out to safeguard these historic buildings and seawalls. Meanwhile, extreme care and skill was necessary in strengthening and retrofitting the existing structures, without causing disruption to their everyday operations.

The foundation for the new structures consisted of bored piles ranging from 600 mm to 900 mm in diameter, whilst an RC flat plate system was adopted to provide the necessary clear height requirement. In addition, environmental impact studies for the works were carried out in the nearby Marina Reservoir.

Topping it off was the incorporation of special design and detailing on slanting columns, to maximise water views for all occupants throughout this precinct that’s now a hive of amiable activity around the clock!

The Building Services team worked closely with the architectural team to provide the efficiency and flexibility of modern technology, while preserving the old world charm of the heritage building.
