Oxfam Water Challenge

Making a splash for communities in Melanesia

We know how precious access to safe water is to a community. So every year we take part in the Oxfam Water Challenge, helping Oxfam raise the funds to get vital Water, Sanitation and Hygiene education projects off the ground.

Throughout Melanesia, ill-health from drinking dirty water and poor sanitation is one of the most serious threats. The Oxfam Water Challenge brings New Zealand companies together to make a big splash – a splash that ensures fresh water flows to communities in Melanesia.

The Challenge requires teams to design, build, present and operate a temporary solution to a water challenge or scenario, providing the perfect combination of team-building, fun, and applying technical knowledge.

Garry Macdonald – Business Director for our water services team and ring-leader for the Oxfam Water Challenge – has dedicated his engineering career to improving the environment through better management of waste and wastewater in several countries. Garry has had a close relationship with Oxfam for many years and is currently a member of Oxfam’s Programme Committee and Board of Trustees.

Our Team Says

The event was a great opportunity to meet other engineers with a keen interest in humanitarian aid. We learnt about the value of water and how in lots of places around the world, it isn't as easy as just turning on a tap.
