Beca appoints Patrick McVeigh as Technical Director for Economic Development Advisory

Beca is excited to welcome Patrick McVeigh to our Northern Region Planning and Engagement team, as Technical Director for Economic Development Advisory.

As a Chartered Town Planner and economic development professional with more than 30 years’ experience, Patrick brings with him extensive experience in both the public and private sectors in New Zealand and overseas, specifically in strategy development, policy formulation, research and evaluation, scenario planning and visioning.

With a wealth of knowledge of international best practices Patrick is respected as a trusted advisor within the sector, with a track record of practical delivery and innovative solutions across a wide range of policy areas in both New Zealand and the UK.

“Patrick brings a complementary and increasingly important skillset to our placemaking and city- shaping activity in Auckland and beyond,” Northern Regional Manager Rupert Hodson says.

“In collaborating with Patrick over the last year, it is clear he shares our values-driven approach to partnering and delivering for our clients.

He is a well-established leader in this space, with strong relationships from his experience as a front-end city and regional outcomes advisor, for a range of local and central government agencies."

Patrick says: “It’s a privilege to be joining the Beca team. I am looking forward to bringing an economic development lens to the many exciting and transformational projects that Beca delivers, and to continue to work across the motu on city and regional development opportunities that support successful, sustainable, and resilient communities. Beca’s delivery track record, extensive technical capabilities, and multi-disciplinary approach means I can’t think of a better place to be.”

Patrick is the Deputy Chair of Economic Development New Zealand and in 2022 received the Distinguished Service Award for his contribution to the practice and profession of economic development.

At Beca, we strongly believe in collaboration and partnership, as central to our purpose to make everyday better. We work closely with our government and private sector clients, our partners and communities, to understand their priorities and their challenges, and apply our expertise to deliver innovative, and high-quality solutions.
