Beca is proud to be supporting the National Gallery of Victoria’s “The Fox: NGV Contemporary” development in Melbourne, contributing specialist expertise in building technologies and smart buildings advisory services.

As part of this commission, Beca is working alongside the NGV and Development Victoria to help shape the integration of digital and operational systems across one of Australia’s most significant cultural infrastructure projects. The Fox: NGV Contemporary is being built as part of the Victorian Government’s Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation, a city-defining project that will provide a major rejuvenation to the city and Southbank, which will also deliver significant upgrades to Arts Centre Melbourne’s Theatres Building, and Laak Boorndap, a new urban garden for people to enjoy.
Founded in 1968, the NGV is a cornerstone of Melbourne’s cultural identity. The Fox: NGV Contemporary development represents a major step forward not just in architecture and design, but in how cultural facilities operate, connect and evolve over time.
Beca’s role is to orchestrate building services, digital platforms and asset systems, delivering smoother operations, stronger energy performance and a better visitor experience.
This work reflects a broader shift across the built environment where the convergence of engineering and digital systems is essential to delivering resilient, future-ready infrastructure.
Nicolas Brisson, AU Lead for Smart Buildings says, “Projects like The Fox: NGV Contemporary highlight the importance of bridging the gap between traditional building systems and digital technology, ensuring everything works together in a practical, operational way.”
“What’s particularly exciting about The Fox: NGV Contemporary project is the shift from treating technology as an add on to embedding it as a core part of how the building operates from day one. As assets and systems become more complex, there’s a real need to connect asset data, building systems and operational workflows in a way that maximises value from the data collected for the client. We’re seeing strong demand across Australia for this kind of integrated approach.” adds Mo Chalabi, Associate - Digital Consulting
The Fox: NGV Contemporary project is a strong example of Beca’s capability in delivering complex, integrated solutions, and our growing impact in Australia’s cultural and civic infrastructure sector.
