For Beca, Road Safety Week is closely connected to the work we do every day with clients, partners and communities across Aotearoa.
Why Road Safety Week matters
Road Safety Week is an opportunity to pause and talk about road safety in a more focused way. For many people, it brings attention to issues they see every day, whether that is busy school drop‑offs, difficult crossings, or roads that don’t feel safe to use.
At Beca, road safety is part of our transport work year‑round. We work with councils, transport agencies and communities across Aotearoa and Australia on projects that aim to reduce risk and improve safety for the people who use our roads. That work ranges from local streets through to regional and national networks, and often involves balancing safety with access, movement and community needs.
Road Safety Week gives us a moment to step back from individual projects and reflect on the wider picture. It helps connect the technical work we do with the everyday experiences of people moving around their neighbourhoods.
Our connection to Road Safety Week
Beca has supported Road Safety Week since 2021. Our involvement reflects a long‑term commitment to safer transport systems rather than a single week of activity.
Each year, our people work alongside organisations such as Brake, NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi, Kiwirail, councils, schools and community groups. Together, these partnerships support initiatives that raise awareness, encourage safer behaviours and recognise the people working to reduce harm on our roads.
Road safety is personal
For many of our team, road safety is personal. People bring their own experiences as parents, drivers, cyclists, pedestrians and public transport users. Road Safety Week provides a shared point in the year to acknowledge that connection and to talk openly about what is working and what still needs attention.
