Located in the Southern Ocean where the Antarctic waters in the south converge with the Subtropical waters in the north, The Auckland Islands have much to teach the world around climate change and ocean health.
In February 2016, Amanda Brown – an environmental engineer from our Water team joined 26 other lucky adventurers including top environmental scientists, ecologists and high school students on a voyage to the Auckland Islands as part of The Sir Peter Blake Trust, the Young Blake Expeditions.
Amanda’s invitation to join the crew followed some previous pro-bono work we provided on a proposed research station on the east coast of Auckland Island.
The group’s mission was to progress a globally significant scientific research project on climate change. They collected plankton, seaweed, algae and soil samples which will be analysed and used to monitor the region’s iconic and highly-adapted species for change.
