Three Concrete Awards for 'oustanding achievement' on Mackays to Peka Peka project

Beca is proud to win three awards, together with our Alliance partners, for our work on the Mackays to Peka Peka (M2PP) Expressway Project at the 2017 New Zealand Concrete Society Awards held last week.

Jamil Khan, Technical Director – Structural Engineering said the project wins, described by the judges as an “outstanding achievement,” were the result of seven years of work on the 18km section of the new Kapiti Expressway, 60km north of Wellington, New Zealand.

“The judges said the complex geometry, high site seismicity, high compressible and potentially liquefiable soils and critical urban design demands presented unique challenges to the Alliance. The challenging environment also forced the team to push for innovative solution in design and construction of the structures along the expressway,” Jamil said.

“The feedback on the night was that it was clear all parties involved had a clear sense of purpose and a passion for delivering quality and excellence.

“The role of concrete cannot be understated in the project, and it is showcased in all its different forms and textures for appreciation by the industry and society as a whole. The judges remarked that the special concrete design and detailing further enhanced the strength and durability of structures in the project.”

Beca is proud to have won the following awards with the support from Alliance Partners: New Zealand Transport Agency, Fletcher Construction Company, Boffa Miskell, Higgins Group, Goodmans Contractors, Warren & Mahoney, Firth Concrete and Stresscrete.
