Beca wins big at annual Defence industry awards

Beca took home three out of four New Zealand Minister of Defence Awards of Excellence to Industry at a gala awards dinner held during the 21st annual Defence and Industry Forum in Palmerston North on 31 October- 1 November.

Announced by New Zealand Minister of Defence Hon Ron Mark, Beca took home:

Category 1 Award for the provision of a Service to Defence less than $15m.   

Beca joint winners with PwC for the collaborative delivery of support services to assist NZDF in developing their corporate strategy “Strategy 2025”.  Lauren Martin received the Award on behalf of Beca.  

Category 3 Award for the provision of a product or service to Defence in excess of $15m.

Beca joint winners with Boeing, Marops and Airbus for the development and delivery of a capability upgrade to the RNZAF P-3K2 Orion Aircraft to integrate a state of the art Underwater Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (UWISR) system. Jeremy Wright received the Award on behalf of Beca.  

Health and Safety Citation for the strongest overall demonstration of excellence in health and safety carried out by an organisation supplying to defence.

Beca were winners for the Diving Remediation Projects to investigate and implement management systems to improve assurance of diver safety through improved materiel and maintenance management procedures. Bruce Neville received the Award on behalf of Beca.

Special Award for outstanding contribution to the sector

A Special Award was also made to Llanwyn Smith recognising an individual from industry who has made a significant and long-term contribution to the relationship between defence and industry. This award is testament to Llanwyn’s continued involvement over 15 years at Beca in development and delivery of the P-3K2 Orion Software Support Services Contract, through development of associated services to other platforms and aircraft, his involvement in whole of life asset management by Defence, and his previous involvement as a Board member of the NZ Defence Industry Association.

Andrew Ford, Defence Segment Leader for New Zealand said he was proud to see Beca recognised so strongly in the annual Awards of Excellence to Industry.

“I believe our success reflects our genuine commitment to fostering a long term strategic relationship with NZDF and the Ministry of Defence, the breadth of our service delivery to Defence clients, and the success of the outcomes delivered through industry collaboration,” Andrew said.

“Well done to everyone involved and to your commitment to making everyday better for our Defence clients. I’d also like to congratulate our partners and other award recipients,” he said.

“I would also like to congratulate Draeger New Zealand for taking out the Category 2 Award for the provision of a product to Defence less than $15m and Karen Tregakis of Tregakis Brown consultants for outstanding contribution to the sector.”

Beca had a strong presence at the 21st annual Defence and Industry Forum, demonstrating advances in virtual and augmented reality. The Forum enables all industry and public sector participants in the Defence and National Security sector to come together to build collaborative relationships, and to discuss the changing needs of agencies delivering National Security outcomes for New Zealand.
