15 Beca experts recognised with esteemed titles

Last Friday evening, Beca announced one new Chief Engineer and 14 new Beca Technical Fellows – esteemed titles awarded to Beca’s technical and delivery experts in recognition for being the best in their fields and for the profound contribution they make to their industries.

Craig Price, Chief Technical Officer, was delighted to announce the recipients at Beca’s two-day Delivery Leadership Conference.

He said, “Chief Engineer and Beca Technical Fellow are titles given to recipients that demonstrate outstanding technical or delivery skills, expertise and leadership. This year we broadened our focus to not only those who are our leading technical experts, but to more clearly identify those who have demonstrated outstanding competence in project delivery.

Congratulations to the 2017 recipients who are as follows:

Rob Jury – Chief Engineer – Structures: With nearly 40 years at Beca, Rob has played a key role in a huge range of projects across New Zealand, Asia and beyond with his technical specialisation is seismic design and the assessment and strengthening of existing structures. He has engendered respect across a range of Beca geographies and cultures, and currently chairs Beca’s Structural Technical Delivery Group.

Sue Bradley – Beca Technical Fellow - Project Delivery: Over 20 years of experience, Sue has delivered complex industrial projects in New Zealand and in Asia including Project Pride for Lion which received the Project Management Institute's Project of the Year Award.

Richard Built, Beca Technical Fellow - Structural Engineering: One of New Zealand’s finest structural engineers with over 34 years’ experience, who is recognised for his cost-effective “whole building design” solutions. 

Peter Burgess – Beca Technical Fellow - Project Delivery: Described as “one of Beca’s best and most experienced project directors", he has a prodigious record delivering projects and programs of work in diverse geographical locations and markets.

Dr C Y Chin – Beca Technical Fellow - Geotechnical Engineering: An expert in numerical modelling and seismic geotechnical engineering, Dr Chin is also known for his consulting and project work and technical research.

Andrew Ford – Beca Technical Fellow - Project Delivery: A champion of project delivery for defence clients, Andrew’s track record includes complex organisation change challenges for clients, particularly in the areas of logistics and seaworthiness.

Robert McGivern – Beca Technical Fellow - High Assurance Software Engineering: With 26 years’ experience in software engineering, Robert is said to have “shaped the way software certification for high assurance software systems is managed, controlled and implemented”. 

Brent Meekan – Beca Technical Fellow - Project Delivery: A highly respected and sought after leader for large project delivery strategy in the transport and infrastructure market who takes on the most senior project governance roles.

Mark Nankervis – Beca Technical Fellow - Project Delivery: A Fellow of Engineers Australia and mentor and assessor of CPEng candidates, Mark leads structural technical initiatives including automated design and knowledge capture for standard designs/specifications.

Brett Naylor – Beca Technical Fellow - Building Information Modelling: His career started in architecture, and now he’s now a recognised expert in Building Information Modelling (BIM) and regarded by Autodesk as being right at the forefront of BIM globally.

Steve Perkins – Beca Technical Fellow - Building Services: An energetic leader who is passionate and active in pursuit of new technology, and described as a “recognised leader in modular design and district cooling systems”. 

Hena Rana – Beca Technical Fellow - Business Performance: Valued for her technical expertise, consulting style and ability to add value for clients, Hena is the 'go to' person for business improvement projects.

Graham Spargo - Beca Technical Fellow – Planning: A national expert in strategic planning, urban growth and development, Graham’s career spans consulting and local government in addition to numerous government and industry appointments. 

Joe Walsh – Beca Technical Fellow - Project Delivery:  An outstanding leader of project teams who, for the last five years, has successfully led the delivery of some of the largest and operationally complex airfield infrastructure projects in Australia.

Andrew Watson – Beca Technical Fellow - Water Supply: With 35 years’ engineering experience, Andrew specialises in the design, design management and technical leadership of water projects and is a recognised expert in drinking water standards.

Beca’s inaugural Technical Fellows were first appointed in 2013. This was an important step in bringing clarity and aspiration to a technical career path, and enables the global organisation to acknowledge the very best of their technical and delivery people and the contribution they make to Beca and the wider industry.
