The Institute of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) has appointed Craig Price – Beca Regional Manager, South Island – as its new President.
Craig has been a long-time, active member of IPENZ. He is excited about the opportunities ahead and helping IPENZ deliver strategies that drive increased credibility and influence for its members.
Passionate about upholding engineering standards and developing the role of engineers in society, he says, “Engineers need to step up and become influencers, not just implementers. Problem solving is at the heart of engineering, and engineers can bring this a very valuable perspective to industry groups and commercial and community boards.”
Craig has been influential in the strategic development and growth of Beca’s South Island operations in New Zealand. He joined the company in 1988 and has had a long standing career leading and delivering numerous significant multidisciplinary projects. He is highly regarded both within Beca and across the industry. Craig led Beca’s Christchurch team through the 2011 Canterbury earthquakes, and played a critical role in creating a culture of collaboration, connection, enjoyment and pride across Beca.
“Engineering is an energising and challenging profession full of different paths and possibilities. We need to keep attracting the best young talent – and to make sure we support them throughout their careers.”
Beca is proud of Craig’s appointment and congratulates him on this outstanding personal achievement.
Craig will hold office for a year. He is an IPENZ Fellow, Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Directors, and is a director of infrastructure services company City Care.
