Congratulations to Graeme Walker from our Hamilton industrial team, winner of the Project Management Institute of New Zealand's (PMINZ) Emerging Project Manager of the Year award!
The award recognises rising talent – individuals who are already demonstrating they can make a difference to the profession and the companies and clients for whom they work.
Graeme initially joined our team in Brisbane in 2012 as a project engineer, and is currently seconded at Fonterra, where he's assisting with the redevelopment of Fonterra's Pahiatua dairy factory in Manawatu-Wanganui, New Zealand.
"Graeme understands the importance of strong relationships with people" said Paul McGinn, Fonterra Senior Projects Manager. "He takes the time get to know people and understand their needs, which in doing so enables him to deliver more effectively. His professional nature and clear communication skills keep stakeholders on the same page and fully aware of the project."
Graeme's secondment to Fonterra was recommended following his strong performance on the Qantas Catering Facility project in Brisbane, Australia, where he demonstrated his ability to adapt quickly and see tasks through in difficult situations.
"Graeme's common sense, and logical and considered approach underpins his future as a project manager within our industry" said Stephen Johnson, Beca Senior Project Manager. "Given the right balance of guidance and freedom to develop, I'm confident he'll become a high performing project manager and sought-after go-to resource."
Two Beca projects were also nominated as finalists at the awards. The Cook Islands Northern Group Renewable Energy project was a finalist for Project of the Year, and the Auckland Manukau Eastern Transport Initiative (Phase 1) was a finalist for Public Sector Project of the Year. Matthew Collins, Beca Assistant Project Manager was also a finalist for the Research Achievement Award.
