Congratulations to our Australian architectural team on being shortlisted in the Commercial Exterior category of the Dulux Colour Awards 2015 for their dynamic and bold architectural screening treatment design to the visually prominent South Morang Zone Substation site in Victoria.
Our Australian architects worked closely with AusNet Services to develop an innovative and radical screening treatment, which was completed in July 2014. A series of solid flat walls are offset by vertical elements and feature undulating profiles that create an overlapping effect to screen the switch room buildings and power infrastructure.
HDPE plastic panels were the preferred construction material due to the inherent safety, acoustic and low conductivity properties required in the power environment. The coloured, playful shapes were stencilled on to the plastic panels to create movement and interest for passing drivers. The multiple layers of the visual screen generate a vibrant, contemporary and abstract aesthetic.
The Dulux Colour Awards recognise inspirational thinking among architects and designers in Australasia and acknowledge the innovative ways in which colour creates inspiring spaces, showcasing and celebrating colour in the built environment. The winners will be announced at a gala event on Wednesday, 25 March in Melbourne.
