Waterview Connection and Beca shine bright on world stage

The Well-Connected Alliance secured the Waterview Connection’s first major international award at the annual International Roading Federation’s Global Road Achievement Awards (GRAA) in Las Vegas, USA, on November 7. Beca was an alliance participant along with WSP, Tonkin + Taylor, Fletcher, McConnell Dowell, Obayashi and the NZ Transport Agency.

Up against a number of international entries, Waterview took out the ‘Design’ category which recognises outstanding achievements in the broad design arena, including aesthetics, applications in challenging environments, cost efficiency and originality.

Matt Sturge, Manager of Beca’s Civil Structures team and Structures Design Manager on Waterview, was presented with the award, along with Waterview colleagues Ann Merrick and Doug Maconochie from WSP.

”It is a privilege to represent Beca and the rest of the Well-Connected Alliance on the international stage. I was blown away by how significant our achievements on Waterview are viewed by our peers internationally and I feel proud to be a New Zealander.

The GRAA is a one-of-a kind competition to recognise innovative roading projects and exemplary people that place the road industry at the forefront of worldwide social and economic development.
