Waikoukou takes home Property Council New Zealand Supreme Award

We are proud to announce multiple wins at the Property Council New Zealand Rider Levett Bucknall Property Industry Awards 2018, held Friday 15 June in Auckland, New Zealand. To top off a successful night, one of our projects, Waikoukou, Transpower’s Wellington office located at 22 Boulcott Street, took home the Supreme Award.

The project consisted of a collection of old buildings, formerly occupied by the Dominion Post, which were transformed into the new home for Transpower and their National Coordination Centre. The redevelopment involved major structural modification, seismic strengthening using Buckling-Restrained Brace technology, the addition of three stories on top, and the creation of a spectacular atrium.

Matthew Lander, Technical Director and Job Manager on this project said, “We are honoured to be a part of the winning team for the Supreme Award. The project is a shining example of the sustainable re-use of buildings and a testament to the collaborative approach adopted by the whole project team, led by McKee Fehl Constructors.”

The awards judges credited the project team, saying the significant redevelopment, refurbishment and addition of a new office structure has rejuvenated what was a largely vacant and obsolete collection of buildings. This project successfully integrates multiple challenges, delivering a thoughtful design, quality execution, and has resulted in a high-quality investment asset.
