NZ Festival of Architecture

From 14 to 23 September, Beca Design Practice will be celebrating architecture and design in New Zealand by participating in the NZ Festival of Architecture. Organised by New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA), the festival aims to break down barriers between the profession and members of the public.

Tours, talks, debates and exhibitions are some of the events that will be open to the public across New Zealand during the Festival.

In Auckland, Beca's Design Practice, located on the ground floor of Beca House, will be hosting a range of pop-ups and events to showcase the varied projects Beca's Urban Design, Landscape Architecture and Architecture teams are involved in. 

1.  Tūhono: of People and Place, Panel Discussion from 5.30pm – 7.30pm on Tuesday 18th September

Beca's Tauranga office is hosting a panel disccusion to acknowledge the importance of recognising the role of tangata whenua within the CBD, and how we can elevate their position as a key partner in future developments within the city. Register here. 

2. Lean Construction Presentation from 12.30pm – 2.30​pm on Friday 21st September

Beca House in Auckland is hosting a presentation by NAWIC (National Institute of Women in Construction) as part of the Festival of Architecture on Friday 21st September. Fahime Zaeri (PhD, Construction Management) will be sharing her experience in Lean Construction, focussing on the use of the Last Planner tool to manage delivery and programme in a construction project. 3. Beca Design Practice Open Day from 11am to 2pm on Saturday 22nd September

Come along and experience our Virtual Reality (VR) tour of New Plymouth Airport. 

4. Manukau Bus Station Tour from 10am to 1pm on Saturday 22nd September

Groups of the public will being guided through this award winning building by our architects. Head along to find out more about the design. Tickets will need to be booked through the NZIA festival website.

5. Park(ing) Day at 42 Tyler Street in Britomart – All day Friday 21st September 

Park(ing) Day is an annual worldwide event where artists, designers and citizens transform metered parking spots into temporary public places. Since 2005 this tactical / guerrilla urbanism movement has not only successfully communicated the importance of quality public space, but also resulted in permanent replacement of car parks with public parks. Beca has taken part in Park(ing) Day for the last three years alongside the New Zealand Institute of Landscape Architecture (NZILA). 

This year the team will be set-up outside 42 Tyler Street in Britomart. Head along and check out the temporary public space.
