On Tuesday 24 July, in partnership with the University of Canterbury, we recognised five outstanding engineering students with Beca Engineering in Society scholarships at a presentation evening held at the University’s John Britten building.
For over 25 years the Beca Engineering in Society scholarships have been awarded to undergraduate Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) students who have demonstrated outstanding academic and personal achievement, and also display potential to become future leaders in engineering.
Congratulations to the following 2018 Beca Engineering in Society scholarship recipients:
- Angela Robinson (Civil Engineering) and Emma Rees (Chemical and Process Engineering) who were awarded 'Second Professional Year' scholarships valued at $3,000
- Southern Turner (Civil Engineering) and Nicholas Jackson (Chemical and Process Engineering) who both received 'Third Professional Year' scholarships valued at $3,500
Megan Chu, a Third Professional Year software engineering student was also recognised with the Phil Gillon Memorial Scholarship. Worth $5,000, the scholarship commemorates Phil Gillon – a leader in our regional team who was passionate about developing young engineering graduates. The scholarship is awarded to the Third Professional Year student who demonstrates all round achievement and leadership potential, and contribution to society through the engineering profession.
Letitia Drury, South Island Regional Manager and University of Canterbury alumnus, was proud to present the scholarships to this year's recipients.
She said, "These students are incredibly passionate about what they do, and have a very real desire to contribute to society through the engineering profession and to influence the future in helping build more resilient and self-reliant communities."
We proudly support academic students through numerous scholarship programmes including the University of Canterbury, University of Auckland and Ngāi Tahu whanau.
