We are pleased to announce that Kate Meyer, Business Director Sustainability has been named on the 2021 University of Auckland 40 under 40 list in the disruptors and innovators category.
The 40 under 40 list recognises high achievers in their 20s and 30s who are shaping New Zealand’s future. The categories include business leaders, influencers, performers, entrepreneurs, humanitarians, and disruptors and innovators. Now in its fifth year, the programme celebrates alumni who have achieved exceptional success within their profession and have made a significant community impact while aged under 40.
Kate has been named in the disruptors and innovators category, where nominees are recognised for challenging the status quo in their industries in new and effective ways.
With a strong interest in sustainability from very early on, Kate noticed a large gap between the science of sustainability, and how business and government approached sustainability, which led her to create Planetary Accounting - a model to connect human decision-making with Earth’s environmental limits. She has co-authored the book The Planetary Accounting Framework: Understanding Your Environmental Impact, which gives a science-based guide for ‘how much’ we can use and ‘how far’ we can push our planet.
"Planetary Accounting is not just about limiting further impact, it is about quantifying what we need to do to get back to within the Earth’s boundaries,” says Kate.
Kate is part of Beca’s sustainability leadership team, responsible for supporting our key initiatives in this space as well as working to achieve positive sustainability outcomes through working with our clients.
She joins 160 other exceptional University of Auckland graduates who have been named since the initiative was introduced five years ago.
Congratulations Kate!
