Beca congratulates our Chief Strategy and Operations Officer, Don Lyon, who was awarded the New Zealand Planning Institute’s Distinguished Service Award. This is a prestigious award that is given, on occasion, to members of the Institute who have made a significant contribution to the profession of planning.
Don graduated from the University of Auckland in 1988 with a Bachelor of Planning, joining Beca as a Senior Planner in 1992 after commencing his career in local government. He is a full member of the NZ Planning Institute and is also a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors in New Zealand Inc.
Don has progressed through planning roles at Beca, into senior management and Group leadership. When he joined Beca as a planner in 1992, planning was in its early days at Beca with only a handful of planners. Don’s influence has been a big part of growing Beca’s planning and environmental team from those early days to the 200-strong business line that it is today. He stepped into a new role of Chief Strategy and Operations Officer for Beca Group in 2017 and is now responsible for global business and market strategy and for overseeing the operations of the company’s five global business groups. Don regularly reminds his colleagues that his Auckland University planning training, and his work experience on planning projects, is what has enabled his remarkable career.
Greg Lowe, Beca Group CEO, said, “This is a wonderful recognition of Don’s achievements from his planning peers, and we warmly congratulate him on this important award.”
