Today we launched our first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). The ‘Reflect’ RAP, endorsed by Reconciliation Australia, is the first step of our journey to bridge the gap with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples at work and in society.
The RAP provides a framework to help us realise our vision for reconciliation, and provide a practical plan of action built on relationships, respect and opportunities which create social change and economic opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.
Beca Australia Managing Director Craig Lee says the RAP documents Beca’s commitment to contribute to reconciliation in Australia.
“Although we’re only in the early stages of our reconciliation journey, our Reflect RAP shows our commitment to building respectful relationships and creating opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We’re excited to have the endorsement of Reconciliation Australia for our RAP, and we look forward to working with them on our reconciliation journey,” he said.
Launching Tuesday, 13 February across all Australian offices, our RAP will contribute to our Beca-wide initiative of creating a more diverse and inclusive culture across our business.
“Launching our RAP today on the tenth anniversary of ‘sorry’ day is a reminder to all of us that it is the small and large actions we take every day that will bridge the gap,” Craig said.
“Over the next year we have many actions to implement, including initiatives around employment, training and business partnership opportunities. Our RAP is a key part of our commitment to creating a highly diverse and inclusive culture, and we look forward to working with the community to make this happen.
The four RAP types Reflect, Innovate, Stretch and Elevate set out the elements required for us to make the plan as meaningful as possible. As part of our ‘Reflect’ RAP we aim increase the cultural awareness and understanding of First Australians and their languages, histories and cultures within our business.
This RAP is part of a wider diversity and inclusion strategy we’re working on which is critical to helping us grow and sustain our business. We are working towards making a difference and we are excited to see our plan come to life.
