Congratulations to Sarah Barrow and Laurent Sylvestre from our NZ People & Culture team who both took out the top honours in their categories at the 2016 NZ HR Awards in Auckland last week. Sarah received 'Emerging HR Practitioner of the Year' and Laurent won 'HR Generalist of the Year'. Presented by HR Institute of NZ (HRINZ), the annual awards recognise excellence and outstanding achievement within New Zealand's HR community.
Sarah joined Beca in 2014 and has achieved meteoric career progression, moving from coordinator to advisor and then business partner within 18 months. With a strong capacity for leadership, she has created step change within her business line leadership teams. She continuously looks at ways to help the business build leadership capability so they can influence better outcomes for the business.
"Sarah offers a glimpse at the future of HR" says Nicky Parlane – People & Culture Business Partner. "She takes time to research new fields of thought in the HR space in order to influence and shape the future."
Originally from France, Laurent joined Beca six years ago. As our NZ People & Culture General Manager, he has made a significant impact on our team – designing, leading and implementing innovative initiatives and frameworks that have transformed Beca into a talent-led organisation.
Don Lyon - NZ Managing Director at Beca says, "Laurent's charisma brings people together. He has an affinity for people and they follow him and his strategies. He has also been a great coach for the executive team."
The judges commented, "Laurent's entry demonstrated that he is one of those rare HR individuals – highly respected as a true business leader, strategic thinker and valued contributor to the company's success. Drawing on his passion for people, and experience both in NZ and overseas, he is recognized for his authentic leadership, and ability to champion HR as a true business partner."
Congratulations to our People & Culture team on this fine achievement! These awards build on the recognition the team received last year, winning 'Best Graduate Development Programme' at the 2015 NZAGE Graduate Industry Awards.
