Garry Macdonald recognised as Distinguished Fellow of Engineering New Zealand

Beca is proud to see three of our Beca leaders recognised as Engineering Fellows of Engineering New Zealand (ENZ).

Darryl-Lee Wendelborn and Philip Robins have achieved this great accolade, alongside Garry Macdonald, Beca Market Leader – Water, who has been made a Distinguished Fellow - one of only six Distinguished Fellows ever to have been named from Beca.

In response to the achievement, Garry said, "I'm immensely proud and humble to be one of the six Distinguished Fellows of ENZ from Beca, and very thankful for the support that Beca has given me over the years to participate in and contribute to ENZ, as well as other professional and technical groups in New Zealand and overseas."

Garry is respected for his extensive technical knowledge and contribution to the engineering profession and water engineering both within and outside Beca. He has been involved in many of New Zealand's most significant wastewater masterplanning and treatment projects.

He has also contributed to the market by providing leadership to key industry bodies such as ENZ and Water New Zealand as President for a number of years. In addition to this he was named a Water Environment Federation Fellow in 2019; he was the first person from Australasia to be named a WEF Fellow and remains the only New Zealand-based Fellow to date.

To add to his leadership and technical expertise as a distinguished wasterwater and environmental engineer, Garry is also an advocate for diversity, giving his wholehearted support to the Women in Engineering initiative whilst he served as President of ENZ.

Garry, Darryl-Lee and Phil will celebrate their achievements alongside the other 2021 Distinguished Fellows and Fellows at ENZ's Fellows' Dinner on 26 February in Wellington.
