Beca grows NSW Transport and Infrastructure leadership team

Beca is proud to welcome Rohitha Silva as a Technical Director in our NSW Transport and Infrastructure team.

Rohitha joined us in January 2021, and will be taking a leading role in helping to build on and drive forward our structural expertise in NSW and across Australia, based out of our Sydney office.

“I am honoured to become a member of a century-old engineering organisation, that has such a focus on quality service delivery, and on forming trusted, credible, and long-term client and partner relationships. I look forward to contributing and sharing my own experience, to further promote Beca as a technical leader in the Civil Infrastructure space, and encouraging the firm’s great innovation and teamwork to overcome engineering challenges,” says Rohitha Silva

With 25+ years’ civil and structural engineering experience in Australia and Thailand, including more than 12 years in Sydney, Rohitha has been involved in the design and construction of over 70 major infrastructure projects. His wide-ranging expertise extends to include design and construction, and also verification and proof engineering of bridges, buildings, tunnels, underpasses, industrial plants, airports, civil and rail infrastructure.

For more than four and half years Rohitha worked in design and construction for NorthConnex (NCX) Tunnel in Sydney. He also brings with him experience as Structures Team Leader on the Banora Point Upgrade Alliance Project in the Pacific Highway Upgrade, as Verifier on the South West Rail Link, and Viaduct Proof Engineer on the North West Rail Link project. He has specialised in 3D Finite Modelling in fire design of major structures in NCX tunnels for ISO fire, and hydrocarbon fires.

“We are really excited to welcome Rohitha into our Transport team here in NSW, where he will take on a vital role in helping drive forward the quality, sustainable, and resilient outcomes we strive for, for our clients and communities. With his extensive design and construction experience across a wide range of infrastructure, demonstrated ability and willingness to share his knowledge with others, I know he will be a great fit and make a big impact right across the sector,” says Simon Berry, Manager - Transport NSW.

With a passion for the industry, Rohitha has been actively involved in promoting engineering, and has delivered many public speeches in Sri Lanka and in Thailand on bridge and infrastructure design and construction. He is a guest lecturer at Western Sydney University, has co-authored several technical papers, and has acted as a reviewer for the ASTM Journal of Testing and Evaluation.

In addition to his professional expertise, Rohitha has been involved with IESL (Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka) NSW Chapter for many years and held various positions; Secretary, Vice Chair and then 10th IESL NSW Chapter Chair.
