Beca's award-winning graduate development programme

We were delighted to take home 'Best Graduate Development Programme' at the 2015 New Zealand Association of Graduate Employers (NZAGE) Graduate Industry Awards. The awards recognise best practice in the recruitment, selection and development of graduate talent and celebrate the high calibre of work being done in the graduate space in New Zealand.

Our People & Culture team accepted the award at the NZAGE Summit dinner and awards ceremony held on 5 November in Auckland. Laurent Sylvestre – People & Culture General Manager says, "For us, investing heavily in graduate talent means creating business sustainability, driving innovation, growing our future business leaders and increasing market opportunities. Having outstanding graduate talent ensures our clients will continue to receive the very best technical and consulting advice available."

Every year, Beca employs up to 100 graduates and up to 60 summer students nationally across a wide range of disciplines, with students from engineering, science, IT, business, science and the arts. Our graduate programme supports our graduates in developing the skills and experience necessary to become a successful consultant in their technical field. The philosophy is simple – you own your career – and we set everything up so they can build their own success in a positive and supportive environment. Our blended learning approach provides a wide range of learning opportunities including formal learning (through graduate conferences and monthly events), coaching, on the job learning and mentoring.

Continuous technical professional development is a key component of the programme. Senior technical directors and managers mentor our graduates and provide input to development and training as they begin their careers. Graduates have the opportunity to gain hands on experience with a wide range of project work, and if they are keen, they can work in other Beca offices throughout New Zealand, Australia and Asia. Many graduates will find themselves on secondment to client sites or working as part of large multi-disciplinary project teams delivering projects across Asia Pacific.
