From a congested traffic corridor to a quick flowing, safe route through Tauranga that’ll help encourage economic growth. That’s the vision for the B2B project.

State Highway 2 between Baypark and Bayfair in Tauranga is a well-used traffic route. High traffic volumes means a heavily congested route with long and unreliable journey times. The B2B (Baypark to Bayfair) Link Upgrade project aims to change this.

Two existing roundabouts on State Highway 2 will be replaced with flyovers. A railway line will be relocated, and a new shared pedestrian and cycle path will be created. The B2B upgrade is set to result in improved safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. Journey times will be more reliable, while congestion will be reduced thanks to the separation of local and state highway traffic.

We’ve been helping the NZ Transport Agency realise the vision for the B2B project for many years. This includes investigating options to improve the Bayfair roundabout, preparing the specimen design, undertaking the detailed design of the railway relocation, and acting as NZ Transport Agency’s agent during design and construction.

The B2B upgrade will connect to the existing Tauranga Eastern Link, completing the ‘Eastern Corridor’ to the Bay of Plenty. It’s an efficient, safe route to the Port of Tauranga, helping to encourage economic growth in the region.
