Standing tall above one of the world’s great cities, Jakarta’s new Sequis Tower is one of Indonesia’s most environmentally sustainable buildings.

In the heart of Jakarta’s Sudirman CBD business precinct, Sequis Tower is setting new benchmarks for energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.

The product of a collaboration between Beca and New York-based Kohn Pederson and Fox architects, the building soars 39 storeys above the bustling city and stretches across 138,000m2 of floor space.

As the lead electrical, ESD (environmentally sustainable design), fire and mechanical engineers on this project, our role was to deliver a design that pushed this building towards the forefront of sustainable design and performance.

Gradated fins and panels on the tower’s curtain wall respond to Jakarta’s sunny climate by managing solar radiation to enhance tenant comfort and wellbeing. High efficiency ventilation, cooling and lighting systems further increase comfort for users, and accessible roof gardens provide tenants with a vital connection to nature.

The result is a building that is designed to consume 36% less energy than a typical office building, and 30% less potable water thanks to low flow fittings and stormwater harvesting.

The embodied energy and carbon in the materials used to build the tower has been managed, with 20% of the materials sourced with recycled content and over 90% of construction waste diverted from landfill.

In recognition of these achievements, Sequis Tower has received a prestigious LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification from the US Green Building Council. This certifies it as a leading, environmentally responsible building – a shining example of sustainability and style.
