The feasibility study will identify possible locations for vehicular ferry terminals and assess their suitability against a suite of criteria, before Beca assists ARTA with selecting the preferred site followed by preliminary concept designs.
Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA) wishes to investigate the feasibility of establishing a new base for vehicular ferry operations from Auckland to the Hauraki Gulf Islands. The study is driven by the need to re-locate the Great Barrier ferry from Wynyard Wharf within three years and by the need to improve operating conditions for vehicular ferries currently operating from Half Moon Bay.
To assist ARTA, the Beca team will identify and robustly analyse options for locating the vehicular ferry operations considering things such as key infrastructure and amenity requirements for vehicular ferry operations and key environmental and resource consenting issues.
Other tasks include a stakeholder workshop and targeted consultation to assist with site identification and option assessment and site evaluation to eliminate non-sustainable and uneconomic options.
Taking planning, environmental, transportation, engineering and economic factors into account, Beca will assist ARTA with the preferred site selection, followed by preliminary concept designs and an indicative costings and implementation plan.
