In 2011 the Well-Connected Alliance comprising Fletcher Construction, MacDow, Obayashi Corporation, Beca, Parsons Brinckerhoff and Tonkin and Taylor was announced to lead the design and delivery of New Zealand's largest roading project.
The Waterview Connection is the last segment of Auckland's south-western motorway and the final key link for the 48km Western Ring Route. This Route has been designated one of the New Zealand government's seven Roads of National Significance (RoNS) due to the contribution it aims to make to regional and national growth. It is anticipated that the NZ$1.4 billion project will be completed by mid-2017.
- five kilometres of new motorway
- two parallel 14.1m diameter tunnels 2.4km long constructed using EPB TBM
- interchanges to connect the South Western Motorway at Mt Roskill and Waterview
- a new motorway to motorway connection at Waterview
- seven major bridge structures including 600m long Ramp 3 structure at Waterview.
The Beca team is spread across the full range of designer delivery roles, including technical delivery, design management, construction planning, construction monitoring, statutory planning, environmental compliance and commercial management.
Beca's design resources are focused heavily in geometrics, bridges, retention structures, buildings, tunnel systems and hydrogeology, and whole of life assessment. We work in fully integrated multi-organisation functional teams to deliver design documentation across the full range of project activity.
Beca is also leading the ongoing statutory planning works for the project. This follows on from our successful delivery of all of the necessary statutory approvals required for the project. The planning teams are embedded with the design and construction teams to develop seamless solutions in advance of construction on site.
We also have a number of cost, procurement and risk management specialists assisting the commercial team on the project.
