Project TAKITINI

Beca’s long history of working with the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) as well as extensive experience in project managing large infrastructure projects was a significant factor in being engaged for this project.
Project TAKITINI - Air Move Terminal.

Project TAKITINI is a New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) project to provide the necessary facilities and infrastructure to support the consolidation of Royal New Zealand Air Force operations at RNZAF Base Ohakea in the Manawatu.

In July 2006, Beca was engaged as Prime Consultant for the project. This included the preparation of design briefs for a programme of works covering 35 sub-projects, and project management for both initial design and the implementation phases. This commission also includes master planning, cost management and risk management.

The project is being managed from an office located on the Base and staffed by both Beca and NZDF personnel. The office promotes a focused ‘best for project’ approach to management with many shared systems and procedures.

In December 2007, the New Zealand Government approved the initial part of the project, comprising seven sub-projects with a combined value of NZ$130 million. The procurement of detail design and construction resources to commence this phase of the project is currently underway. The sub-projects will be progressively delivered through to 2012.

Beca’s long history of working with the NZDF as well as our experience in project management of large infrastructure projects was a significant factor in being engaged for this project.
