The Beca EPCM (Engineering, Procurement, Construction Management) site team provided a blend of engineering knowledge and management systems to communicate, manage and deliver this difficult project.
Beca enjoys a strong relationship with Inco, having worked on nickel mine sites in Indonesia and New Caledonia for more than 30 years. More recently Beca has also worked with Inco China, and has assisted Inco in expanding into new markets.
To increase its range of value added nickel products, Inco China decided to enter into the growing Nickel Foam market. They bought into a joint venture, set up to produce a fine Nickel foam blanket for use in battery production.
Having been involved initially in feasibility and site selection exercises, Beca was engaged to:
- prepare a complete Definition Study, which provided a sound basis for capital approvals needed for the project
- manage and deliver the Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) of the project.
A key challenge for Beca was managing local designers, suppliers and contractors and obtaining local authority approvals, which all had added complexity due to the confidential nature of the processes.
Using a comprehensive design background, the Beca EPCM site team provided the blend of engineering knowledge and management systems required to communicate, manage and deliver this difficult project.
