ANZAC System Upgrade

The upgrade of the communications control system will enable the integration of various equipment installed post ship delivery and provide capacity for future technology.

ANZAC Communications.

The communications control system on the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) ANZAC frigates TE MANA and TE KAHA are obsolete and require upgrading to enable the communications suite to last the life of the vessels. The upgrade of the communications control system will enable the integration of various equipment installed post ship delivery and provide capacity for future technology.

Beca was commissioned in 2005 to prepare the investment case, which enabled the Navy to obtain funding approval. The team was subsequently appointed as project managers to the project, which began in April 2007, and is expected to continue until the end of 2010.

The project was started by base lining the current system. An RFP was then released describing the nature of the problem, and requesting proposals to fix the problem. The contract for supply of the new Communications Control System was awarded to L-3 Communications Systems-East in March 2008 with both ships installations scheduled to be completed by the end of 2010.
