The Crowne Plaza Hotel in Suzhou is a new eight storey hotel with 360 rooms and a two-level basement. The total floor area is about 50,000m2.
Beca was commissioned to provide mechanical and electrical consultancy services for the new hotel, as well as inter-phasing all the new mechanical and electrical services to the existing hotel. Beca’s scope of services covered concept and preliminary design.
The new hotel houses function rooms, ballrooms, Chinese and Western restaurants, spa and swimming pool and offices.
This was one of the first hotel projects for Beca since establishing the buildings group in China. Co-ordinating with the local design institute and local representatives on hotel operators' requirements for an international five-star hotel versus a local five-star hotel was one of the main challenges facing the team.
Beca’s ability to communicate well with the local design institute enabled them to fully understand the preliminary design. It helped them especially when producing the construction drawings.
