Martin is a Chartered Chemical Engineer, with 18 years’ experience in a variety of engineering and man-management roles within industry and seven years as an asset management consultant with Beca.
Currently a Technical Director with Beca, Martin is passionate about helping clients achieve optimum lifecycle costs from their assets through delivery of asset management services, including asset management system reviews, development of asset databases and condition grade assessments. He has provided these services for companies such as Watercare, Contact Energy, Lion, Pacific Steel, Fonterra and Southern Rural Water in Australia.
In addition to technical asset management services, Martin offers an innovative service to communicate key messages in an engaging manner: Visualisation. “The Visualisation technique communicates complex change through hand drawn illustrations developed during collaborative workshops with key stakeholders,” he says. “By personalising these illustrations, people can recognise themselves in the ‘big picture’, making it easier to relate to what is happening and, crucially, feel a part of it”.
Martin has provided Visualisation services to a number of organisations in New Zealand and Australia, communicating everything from strategic vision to business processes and procedures, and health and safety practices. Clients include all branches of the Defence Force (Army, Navy and Air Force), Mighty River Power, New Zealand Transport Agency, Auckland Motorway Alliance and New Zealand Steel, where he has been providing onsite change management support for over seven years.
Prior to Beca, Martin held a variety of engineering and man-management roles within the brewing industry, including ownership of engineering maintenance, utilities, packaging, process, stores, and energy management functions.
He has also undertaken various international jobs, including a logistics and business planning review for Fraser and Neave Coca Cola in Malaysia, an energy audit for the Royal Brewing Company in Tonga, and a maintenance review for Rio Tinto Alcan in Australia.
