John has gained a reputation as a leader in water supply engineering.
John's passion for working in the water industry stems from a fascination with the ubiquity of water and the unique properties that make it vital for life and livelihood, its beneficial uses and the manifestation of its energy and power. Projects that harness these properties drive John to improve and protect them and deliver them safely for use in society.
Forty years of experience in the water industry have given John a variety of opportunities in leadership roles; particularly in the areas of water supply master planning and feasibility studies, design and construction, design-build and project management, water abstraction and water supply headworks, water treatment plants, water storage and water distribution. John is currently leading work drinking water supply upgrades for for Auckland and New Plymouth.
Since joining Beca in 1974, John has worked in New Zealand and internationally, including Australia and South East Asia. This has given him the chance to work with some of the best and engineers in diverse fields and locations. John feels that there is a collegiate spirit within Beca that provides ready access to related disciplines and technical experts.
John has led multidisciplinary studies, system design options and designs for major pipelines such as the 80 km, 915mm dia supply for Sandakan, the 60 km long 1.5m dia Umbulan to Surabaya pipeline in Indonesia and the 1.6m dia Cosseys pipeline for Watercare in Auckland.
