Tony has 18 years' experience in geotechnical engineering including motorway interchanges, bridges, highways, buildings, retaining walls, marinas and industrial facilities.
In 2005, he moved across to Beca Airports as project and design manager and team leader for airport projects. This career move opened up opportunities to work on a number of projects around the world. Tony has drilled on Gag Island in Indonesia, camped on a beach at West Timor, worked in a jungle in Malaysia and commuted via boat to Laucala Island in Fiji.
The type of airports projects Tony has been involved in include asphalt and concrete heavy duty pavements, airport/airside planning and design, runway extensions, apron extensions and rehabilitation, pavement strength testing, earthworks, construction monitoring and contract administration.
Tony was design manager for the Ohakea Runway 09-27 reconstruction, Ohakea taxiway Alpha and Charlie reconstruction, Rotary Wing facility and main apron planning for project Takitini, Whenuapai runway slab replacements, Nadi apron slab replacement and Savusavu runway reconstruction. Tony is also the Pacific Island airport business development manager.
