Technical Director of Buildings / Indonesia

Simon Longuet-Higgins

Over 30 years experience in design, construction and operation of building services systems includes some exciting work on large scale developments in Indonesia.

Simon Longuet-Higgins - Technical Director of Buildings.

Since the early 90’s Simon has led Beca Buildings engineering design teams working on projects in Indonesia. Now permanently based there, Simon works with clients, their international architects and local designers to deliver impressive building projects.

An Auckland University Mechanical Engineering graduate, Simon joined Beca’s Building Services group in the early 80’s after working in the UK. He was soon posted to Singapore and then to Indonesia to assist with building projects there.

Beca has since completed some thirty significant commercial projects in Indonesia, from the Conrad Resort & Spa in Bali, Supermal Pakuwon Indah in Surabaya to Plaza Indonesia, the JW Marriott and the recently opened 420,000 m² Pacific Place in Jakarta. The total built area of projects Simon has led exceeds four million square metres.

Simon has provided building services technical input and design management direction for all Beca Buildings’ Indonesian projects and has developed strong relationships with a number of leading developers. This has resulted in a flow of repeat projects, including seven for one client group.

He has also been instrumental in developing Beca’s Jakarta office; where a team of local engineers and drafters produce much of the detailed documentation for the Beca Buildings group.

According to Simon, the ability to work with our clients and our local engineering teams in Indonesia on projects with immense scale and complexity is the major drawcard that keeps him in this exciting region.
