Manager of Southern Transportation / Auckland

Alan Kerr

"I'm passionate about embedding sustainability in everyday culture, through challenging people's perceptions of transport planning."

Alan Kerr - Senior Transportation Engineer.

Alan's valuable perspective on public transport planning complements Beca's already established and respected reputation in transportation engineering. Alan manages Beca's Southern Transportation team spread across the Wellington and Christchurch offices.

With a Masters in Transport and Business Management, he offers a broader outlook on transportation solutions, going beyond the client's structural requirements. Alan's strategic focus in transport planning translates to master planning and policy developments for a range of public and private sector clients.

His particular competency lies in rail station and interchange design, gained from project and research exposure in the UK. His previous employers include London Underground Limited, Cross London Rail Links and Ove Arup & Partners.

Working for Beca has opened up a wider scope of projects, in contrast to his rail-focused past. Part of his current role involves investigating and encouraging active modes of transport including rail, bus, walking and cycling within predominantly auto-centric urban environments.

Having come from the public sector, Alan knows the makings of a good consultancy. "I've been impressed with Beca - not only is the standard of output produced particularly high but the people are professional, passionate and genuinely enjoy what they do," he says. This has been a refreshing experience and has made Beca a natural fit for Alan.
